Medical Writer

I. Position Summary:
The Medical Writer is responsible for creating content that is developed into promotional educational assets for clients in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. These assets are created in many formats, including live presentations, video, interactive CD-ROMs, and print media. Content typically pertains to disease states and therapeutics. The Medical Writer must have at least a general knowledge of neuroscience, pharmacology, or other life sciences. The Medical Writer is responsible for content development from conception to completion and is proficient at and accountable for all the necessary tasks, whether they are performed by the Medical Writer or by an editorial team member. The Medical Writer reports directly to the Senior Medical Writer and may work with other Medical Writers on various projects. This position requires frequent communication with clients and adherence to multiple simultaneous timelines. The Medical Writer must have the ability to multitask and handle multiple projects efficiently within a collaborative team environment.
II. Responsibilities and Principal Duties:
- Writes educational content for a wide range of uses
- Writes manuscripts, posters, books, newsletter articles, and background material for proposals
- Creates PowerPoint presentations, videos, and animations
- Performs literature searches and data analysis, using sound scientific judgment
- Generates outlines and storyboards (ideas for slides, cases, animations)
- Coordinates the display of graphics and/or animations in material
- Develops advanced illustrations and animations with graphic artists
- Keeps current with scientific findings and literature in the fields of neuroscience, psychopharmacology, and CNS disorders
- Has the ability to quickly and efficiently expand knowledge base into other therapeutic areas
- Develops background material for proposals and other items for business development
- Takes responsibility for scientific accuracy of developed materials
- Submits and discusses content-in-development with Medical Advisor for approval
- Liaises with pharmaceutical client contacts to develop content and obtain feedback
- Implements revisions to projects as per client review
- Delegates work to the editorial team
- Reviews the work of other writers
- Possesses strong communication skills
- Has experience in conducting literature searches and interpreting clinical studies and statistical data analyses
II. Job Demands:
- General knowledge in neuroscience, psychology, pharmacology, or other life science
- In-depth knowledge in at least one area of neuroscience or other scientific field
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Excellent employee interaction and communication skills
- Ability to work with all levels within the organization and accept constructive criticism
- Creative problem-solving skills, ability to work well with minimal supervision, highly organized, dependability, and attention to detail
- Excellent organizational skills

- Teaching experience is a bonus
IV. Qualifications and Requirements:
- Education: A Ph.D. is required.
- Computer skills: Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Office, with a focus in PowerPoint.
- A great deal of creativity is expected.
- Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills and attention to detail.
This is a full-time position in our offices. No freelance inquiries please. Applicants must be local or willing to relocate to the San Diego County area.
Compensation: $50-55K/annum and a full benefits package that includes medical, dental and life insurance and a 401k.
